Work Begins at Dillwyn Recycling Center

As you can see in the image above, Pearson Construction Inc. has started renovation work of the Dillwyn Recycling Center as we modernize the center to mirror what others look like in terms of a secure, gated recycling center for the residents of Buckingham County. This is our last solid waste site that we are modernizing, hence saving our tax dollars in removing the out-of-county and commercial abuse at the sites. I ask our county residents to be patient as the project may result in uncomfortable traffic patterns and changes as the project progresses.
Public Hearings for the Purposes of Rezoning
The Board will hold two public hearings for the purposes of rezoning: One regarding a property on Route 15 South, rezoning it from A1 to B1 for non-retail office space and other permitted uses, and a second, A1 to Industrial-Heavy M-2 for the purpose of Zoning Consistency and Continuation of Mining. The first applicant is from Shelly Mays Couch, and the second is Kyanite Mining Corp.
Firefly Broadband Funding Request

On Monday, we will hear a funding request from Firefly, a subsidiary of Central Virginia Electric Cooperative, in an effort to provide access to broadband internet to those who are underserved Dominion Energy customers. The Committee on Finance also met with Firefly regarding their request and coverage area they are set to provide broadband to.
I find this to be an exciting project to better connect underserved businesses, homes, and those in need of better internet to conduct business.
Other Items to be Discussed
The Board of Supervisors will also consider redistricting procedures and operations, budget adjustments from the sheriff’s office, a report from the Buckingham Fireman’s Association as to the success of the Tractor Pull, a potential appointment to the Piedmont Regional Jail Authority Board, an update on the Courthouse Renovation Committee, and other items, which can be found in our board packet/agenda.
