The Maysville Voice: Our Upcoming Monday, July 11, 2022, 6 PM Board Meeting: Hearings on Three Rezoning Cases, Introduction of Five New Rezoning Cases, and More

Welcome to The Maysville Voice, the newsletter for those who reside and vote in the Maysville District in Buckingham County. I am pleased to bring you lots of information, links, and resources to inform and engage with you as your County Supervisor. This newsletter is filled with lots of resources and information for our upcoming Monday, July 11, 2022 Board Meeting.

We also will be considering and possibly taking action and considering the following items:

We will begin with the following presentations: Resolution in memoriam for Lynda Baber Anderson, resolution in memoriam for Bonnie Lou LeSueur Wood, resolution honoring Charles W. White Sr., and presentation of certificates honoring the Buckingham County Varsity Baseball Team.

We will also hold three public hearings: one for Ike and Rebecca Yoder for the purpose of operating a sawmill at 7041 Crumptown Road, for Dominick and Erin Lamonte for an AirBnB Bed and Breakfast and campsites at 1867 Mulberry Grove Road, and for Roy and Janice Turner for an AirBnB Bed and Breakfast and Event Center and Campsites at 429 Maple Top Lane. We also have five rezoning introductions to consider setting public hearings for possibly in August, and will hear from staff regarding potentially considering a goldmining ordinance and consideration of a grant acceptance, along with a request from Straight Street. We will also hear from our county attorney regarding an update on the Centra Health Medical Facility in Dillwyn and an addendum to an agreement and sales contract with Atlantic Investment Corp.

Statement Regarding Red Arrow Explosion

The Farmville Herald has reached out to me regarding the recent explosion that Red Arrow has taken credit for on social media where tannerite was used to blow up a vehicle near Arvonia. The following is my statement to them.

“I have reached out to Red Arrow Weapons for more information on this incident, but they have not responded as of this writing. They did not reach out to the county per our county administration leadership prior to the blast. Though it is not required by law per our staff, it would have been nice for the company to have notified either law enforcement or our emergency services department before the explosion took place so authorities could have notified those in that community. Second and third hand I am told that the blast shook numerous homes and even damaged some, but I have no official reports of this. We are researching what can be done, if anything, in response to the incident. We would encourage Red Arrow to be good neighbors and be conscious of the impact of such activities.”

Our upcoming Board of Supervisors regular meeting will be held at 6 p.m. on Monday, July 11, 2022, in the Peter Francisco Board Room in the County Administration Complex on Route 60. I encourage you to attend to learn more about your County Government and how your tax dollars are spent.
