Welcome to The Maysville Voice, the newsletter for those who reside and vote in the Maysville District in Buckingham County. I am pleased to bring you lots of information, links, and resources to inform and engage with you as your County Supervisor. This newsletter is filled with lots of resources and information for our Monday, Sept. 12, 2022 Board Meeting, which I hope you will consider attending.

We also have three rezoning and zoning-related public hearings and one
hearing amending our Fiscal Year 22-23 budget because of an adjustment in
school funding, along with four presentations. It will indeed be a long
meeting.
The hearings revolve around, not only our operating budget, but a proposed sawmill
on Ranson Road, a proposed ammunition sales operation on Sawmill Road, and a
commercial repair shop and rental yard on Slate River Mill Road.
Please make sure to pay close attention to what you sign up for to
speak as you must sign up and be recognized before speaking during public
comment or any public hearing.
We will also consider setting public hearings for October for two zoning
cases. We will also consider forming a committee to study our Zoning
Ordinance, allowing staff to undertake an extensive review of zoning actions
taken since adoption of the ordinance; and having an outside agency complete
our Comprehensive Plan.
We also have several Department/Agency Reports,
including a request from the School Board to use Carry Over Funds for a
specific purpose, two Finance Committee recommendations regarding increases for
Sheriff’s Office staff and an appropriation to the Firemen’s Association for
the purposes of a new location for their Tractor Pull. We will also discuss a recommendation from the Solar Committee.
We’ll also be honoring the Buckingham Coach Pitch State Championship Team, which placed third in the World Series representing Virginia during their tournament in Alabama, who also brought home the Sportsman Award!
Our upcoming Board of Supervisors regular meeting will be held at 6 p.m. on
Monday, Sept. 12, 2022, in the Peter Francisco Board Room in the County
Administration Complex on Route 60. I encourage you to attend to learn more
about your County Government and how your tax dollars are spent. If you’re
unable to attend in person, you can view our meeting live here: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCfIL3rVTUEqgxBwXCQoBDTA.
